Great Britain. Matte Proof Halfcrown, 1950. ESC-798c; KM-879. George VI. Nickel. Obverse; Portrait of king left. Designer's initials HP (Humphrey Paget) below truncation. GEORGIVS VI D:G: BR: OMN: REX Reverse; Shield of royal arms FID DEF above HALF CROWN 1950 below. A pair of crowned interlinked Gs each side. Reeded edge, pristine matte proof. At Grading Service, Final grade on Web Site. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
*A small number of matte coins of each denomination were made by the Royal Mint for photographic purposes in 1950 and 1951. These are rare, but appear occasionally in auction. The Norweb collection of coins featured several specimens which were sold in the 1980s.
