China. Western Han Dynasty - Xin Mang. A pair of clay molds for "Da Quan Wu Shi" (50 Cash), 7-23 AD. Each mold has 3 pairs of obverse and reverse impressions, casting a total of six 50 Cash coins. Both complete molds with much of the casting glaze layers remaining on the impressions and channels. Cracks visible on the back. Numismatically important pieces, rarely offered in such conditions. The "Da Quan Wu Shi" series was among the six types of "Quan" coins issued in Wang Mang's third currency reform. The 50 Cash was the largest denomination in the "Quan" series. The consignor indicated that these pieces were originally purchased from Japan. Sold as is, no returns.
