Description

1800/79 NC-2 R6+ Overdate 80 over 79 PCGS graded AG3. Mostly glossy chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. No corrosion or verdigris, only light contact marks consistent with a well-worn cent. The date and most of the legends are clear and the overdate is obvious to the unaided eye. The strike is uneven, as always on this variety, thanks to non-parallel die faces. The left half of both sides is considerably stronger than the right sides and AMERICA is nearly gone. Perhaps that is why the folks at PCGS gave this an AG3 grade. Our grade is AG3+, very close to G4. Seventeen examples are known and most of those have significant defects. The finest known is a net VG10 by EAC grading standards and only three grade better than Good. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: G6 and F12. Only three graded by PCGS. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
