Attica. Athens. Silver Tetradrachm (17.19g), ca. 440-404 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet onamented with thee olive leaves above visor and spiral palmette on helmet; round earring and pearl necklace. Reverse: YΘE garbled letters before owl standing to right with head facing, olive spring and crescent behind; all in incuse square. Kroll 8; Dewing 1591-8; SNG Coppenhagen 31. Struck in high relief with unusual eastern expression. NGC graded Ch. XF; Strike 4/5, Surface 4/5 An interesting coin worthy of more study. Estimated Value $500 - UP
