Attika. Athens, circa 165-142 BC. AR Tetradrachm (Silver, 33.6 mm, 15.94 g). ‘New Style’ coinage. Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos to right. Rev. A-ΘE, owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; to right, aphlaston; two magistrates' monograms in fields. BMC 303; Thompson 8; Svoronos, Monnaies, pl. 33, 22; HGC 4, 1602. Nice very fine, struck on a huge flan and of the finest early emissions of the 'New Style' series where only the monograms 8not the full names) of the magistrates emerged.
