Thrace. Thasos, circa 168-140 BC. AR Tetradrachm (Silver, 31.5 mm, 16.24 g.). Wreathed head of young Dionysos to right. Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟYΣ / ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΘΑΣΙΩΝ, Herakles standing facing, head left, holding club, lion skin draped over left arm; M to inner left. Dewing 1338; SNG Lockett 1240; Prokopov, Silberprägung, Group VI; HGC 6, 359. Lightly toned with nice iridescent hues. Struck with a slightly worn reverse die. Good very fine. Rare early original issue of the late Thasian tetradrachms of a remarkably florid style!
