Macedon, kings. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (31.4 mm, 16.74 g.). Miletos mint, ca. 210-190 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned to left, right leg drawn back, feet on ground line, eagle in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter in left; star above lion (civic emblem) standing left, head reverted, above MI monogram in left field, KA monogram below throne. Price 2166. Struck on a very broad flan, some scratches, otherwise, about good very fine. An exquisite style wonderful portrait of Heracles of extreme beauty and very proportionally engraved body of Zeus.
