★ Dyrrhachion or Leukas? ★
Illyria. Dyrrhachion or Akarnania. Leukas?, circa 275-270 BC. AR Hemidrachm(?) (14.9 mm, 1.85 g). Head of Herakles right, wearing lion’s skin. Rev. Pegasos flying right, below: ΛE. SNG Copenhagen 433–6. Obverse slightly off-center. Good very fine. The only similar example known very similar to the example sold by Numismatik Naumann (formerly Gitbud & Naumann)- Auction 101, lot 147, respectively Dorotheum, November 2015 Auction, lot 686. Although attributed to the city of Dyrrhachion, according to the type with the same iconography but with clearly different letters this example could have been minted in Leukas therefore a very rare specimen.
