Kings of Macedon, Alexander III 'the Great' 336-323 BC. Struck in the name of Alexander III 'the Great' in Pamphylia, Aspendos, circa 212/11-184/3 BC. Dated CY 20 (193/2 BC), AR Tetradrachm (29 mm, 16,62 g.). Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus Aëtophoros seated to left; in left field, AΣ above K (date). Price 2899; DCA 312; SNG München 668. An attractive example with an impressive portrait of Herakles, nicely lustrous surfaces and an excellent grade of the silver. A fascinating image of semi-naked seated Zeus obviously from a very skillful engraver of both dies. Extremely fine.
