dating: 20th Century provenance: Kingdom of Italy, Gold 'MILITARY VALUE' medal with the inscription'SANTANDER 14 - 26 AGOSTO 1937 - GENERALE DI BRIGATA ANNIBALE BERGONZOLI'. On ribbon and in red case. 26 g. Annibale Bergonzoli was a Brigade General and commander of the 'Littorio' division. Leading a division of volunteers, he always fought on the front lines and led his troops to victory in the Battle of Santander from August 14th to 26th, 1937. The Gold Medal of Military Valor, awarded to him for this act of bravery, was later lost by the general himself. After the war, he requested a new, identical medal from the state. Therefore, a replacement was specially minted using the original mold.The medal is accompanied by a declaration of sale from the General's granddaughter to a collector. diameter 3.3 cm.
