Thrace, Abdera. AR Tetradrachm, 14.75 g. - 26.87 mm. Circa 450-425 BC. Melanippos, magistrate.
Obv.: Griffin with straight wing leaping left; kantharos above.
Rev.: EΠI - MEΛ-ANI-ΠΠΟ around linear quadripartite square; all within shallow incuse square.
Ref.: May, Abdera, Period IV, 161 var. (A127/P– [unlisted rev. die]); AMNG II 55; HGC 3, 1136; Jameson 1033 (same obv. die).
