Description

Byzantine Bronze, Belt-buckle (AD 7th-8th centuries).
Belt buckle with rectangular body and integral fastening loop, embossed figure of a stylised winged horse (Pegasus) to the plate.

Belt buckles of this typology were widely found in the territories of the Roman Eastern Empire, and have been found in the excavations of Corinth and Varna. They were mainly found in male graves, and could be a type of belt buckle used by the Roman soldiers of the period.
