Pella is known as the birthplace of Alexander III, also known as the capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia. The city was founded in 399 BC. by King Archelaus. In the 2nd century AD Macedonia became a province of the Roman Empire.
This coin, which features Severus Alexander on the obverse, is one of the most impressive examples of this.
