Description

PB Greco-Persian seal (599 BC–331 BC)
Obv: Persian king or hero, wearing kidaris and kandys, quiver over shoulder, in kneeling-running stance left, holding spear in left hand, bow of tamarisk wood? in right.
Rev: Blank.
In Persian mythological literature, tamarisk inculcates a thought of ‘rescue and triumph’. Numerous bows found in ancient Near East made of tamarisk (Tamarix sp.). This unique bulla with depiction of a kneeling-running figure in typical Achaemenid attire is mainly Greek influenced, and inspired by the Achaemenid 'archer' coins, sigloi and dareikoi. It was most likely produced in the seal workshop in Western Anatolia.

Described by the Pactolus Numismatic Academy (PNA).
Weight: 17.72 g.
Diameter: 25.50 mm.
