Roman Empire (Rome) AR Denarius, AD 79 - Domitian as Caesar (AD 69-81) - NGC Ch AU
Strike: 4/5, Surface: 3/5. Brushed. Scuff. Magnificent specimen with fine mint luster and elegant, aged toning. Struck under Vespasian. Obv.: Laureate head of Domitian to right; “CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS COS VI”. Rev.: Salus standing right with her legs crossed, resting arm on column, holding serpent and feeding it from a patera; “PRINCEPS IVVENTVTIS”. RIC II.1 1084 (Vespasian); RSC 384. Rare. Princeps Juventutis (the Prince of the Youth) was a title of honor for young princes of the imperial family as were destined to reign, accompanied that of Caesar.
