(By the Grace of God, Nicholas II, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia). Rev.: Two-line inscription within a wreath composed of long and short branches of laurel, oak, and palm: ЗА УСЕРДIЕ (For Zeal). Established in 1801 during the reign of Emperor Alexander I. Under Emperor Nicholas II, the medal was awarded to a wide range of recipients (including women) for various services rendered to the government, as well as to lower military ranks for extended service beyond their required term.
