НИКОЛАЙ I ИМПЕРАТОРЪ И САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ ВСЕРОСС . (By the Grace of God, Nicholas I, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia). Rev.: Single-line inscription within a wreath of stylized plant ornamentation. Inscription in center: ЗА ПОЛЕЗНОЕ • (For Merit). This medal was awarded in gold and silver to merchants, peasants, and townspeople for various services rendered to the government, as well as for significant donations. Authentic non-wearable medals of large diameter (65 mm) are exceptionally rare, unlike the neck-worn version with a suspension loop (50 mm).
