Byzantine lead seal
of Theodore hypatos and droungarios
(8th cent.)
(Lead, 23.30 gr, 29.10mm, 12h). Condition: A scrape on reverse, otherwise Very Fine. Uncleaned with a nice natural white patina.
Obv.: Invocative cruciform monogram inscribed in the cormers, resolved as, Θεοτοκε βοηθει tω δουλω Coy = Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ δούλῳ σου (Mother of God, help your servant), wreath border.
Rev.: Inscription in 5 lines between crosses, +θεο / δωρω / υπατω / sδρονγ / αριω+= Θεοδώρῳ ὑπάτῳ καὶ δρονγαρίῳ (Theodore hypatos and droungarios), no visible border.
