Byzantine lead seal of Theodoros metropolitan of Nikaia in Asia Minor (8th cent.)
(Lead, 15.83 gr, 28.20 mm, 12h).
Condition: Struck off-centre, otherwise about Very Fine. Uncleaned with a nice natural cream patina.
Obv.: Invocative cruciform monogram inscribed in the cormers, resolved as, ΘΕΟΤΟΚΕ ΒΟΗΘΕΙ ΤΩ CΩ ΔΟΥΛΩ = Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ (Mother of God, help your
servant), wreath border.
Rev.: Inscription in 4 lines (first missing), [ΘΕΟ/Δ]ΩΡΩΜΗΤ / [Ρ]ΟΠΟΛΗΤ,ΝΙ / ΚΑΙΑC = [Θεοδ]ώρῳ μητροπολίτ(ῃ) Νικαίας (Theodoros metropolitan of Nikaia), wreath border.
