An early byzantine lead seal with the rarest depiction of a boar and an intriguing bilingual inscription (6th century) (Lead, 6.71 gr, 18.40 mm, 12h).
Condition: Sruck on a rather tight flan, scrape on reverse, otherwise Very Fine/Fine. Uncleaned with a nice natural light brown patina.
Obv.: A boar walking to right, no border visible.
Rev.: Intriguing bilingual inscription in cruciform shape, mv / h–θ / mV, to be resolved, wreath border.
What is noticeable in this seal is not only the rarest depiction of a boar, but also the peculiar presence of both Latin and Greek letters on the same side of the seal.
