A double-layer, roman agate intaglio. Pan and Syrinx. The Faun, sitting on a rock, is touching the back of the nymph, who is sitting on a rock too, in front of him. She is holding the syrinx in her right hand; she's been probably interrupted by the faun's approach. Two small through-holes on the intaglio, each of them being one figure; they have to be considered as natural cavities of the stone, already there in antiquity. Excellent, well balanced composition. 1st-2nd century A.D.
