A roman two-layers agate cameo. Bust of emperess.
First quarter of the 2nd century A.D.
8 x 11 x 3 mm
The female figure is facing right, and characterized by a typical hairstyle, finely engraved referrable to the Antonine period. The physionomic features and hairstyle reminds the portraiture of Matidia-Vibia, Sabina or some close member of the imperial family. Slight chip on the nose and fragmentary edge. Ancient wear marks. Delicate execution with nice volume rendering. Rare.
