Description

★ Extremely Rare. ★

German States, Saxony (Albertinian Line), Johhan I, 1854-1873. AV Medallic Ducat, 1864, Crossbow Shooting Society, Dresden mint, unsigned, plain edge, 3.45g, 20mm. * ZUM BLEIBENDEN ANDENKEN GESTIFTET, around, AM 7. AUG. 1864, in two lines, two crossed crossbows. / VON DEM, K: S: KAMMERHERRN, HERRN, CHRISTIAN ADOLPH, VON POLENZ, KOEN: COMMISAR, in six lines, second and sixth are curved (Schl. 991.1; cf. Gebauer 1864.4, for silver issue).

Mount marks remaining at 12 o’clock, edge bump at 2 o’clock and flan cut at 5 o’clock, otherwise about uncirculated with razor sharp details, mirror-like fields and exceptional golden tone, extremely rare.

Issue for crossbow shooting on 7 August 1864, donated by the royal chamberlain and commissioner Christian Adolph von Polenz.
