Egypt. Alexandria. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Tetradrachm (Billon, 25.0 mm, 11.53 g). Dated RY 2 (= 138/9). AYT K T AIΛ AΔP ANΤωNINOC ΕYCEB Draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. ETO YC Canopus of Osiris with feather crown on cushions, right; B (date) to right. Dattari-Savio 2181. RPC IV.4, 15. Emmett 1373. Geissen 1285-6. BMC 992 & suppl. 2967. Cfr. This tetradrachm with on reverse Osiris canopic jar (cfr. also nr. 70 of this collection), has been issued, only during the second reign of Antoninus Pius, 138-139 AD, corresponding in the Egyptioan calendar with the end, respectively the beginning of a "sothic period" of 1461 years, falling on 20 June 139 AD , cfr. Staffieri, G. M. , Isis-Demetra-Sothis nella monetazione alessandrina, in "annotazioni numismatiche" nr. 30, June 1998, pp. 693-697, Milano, 1998.
