Description

Egypt. Alexandria. Trajan, 98-117. Drachm (Bronze, 32.29 mm, 14.04 g). Dated RY 15 (= 111/2). AYT TPAIAN CEB ΓΕΡΜ ΔΑΚΙΚ Laureate bust right, aegis on far shoulder. Rev. Statue of Isis, holding scepter in right hand, enclosed within pylons of Egyptian temple; L IE (date) in exergue. Dattari -Savio 1166. RPC III, 4629. Geissen -. McClean 9858. Emmett 521. Brown patina with some exposed surfaces due to recent cleaning showing porosity, otherwise, nearly Very Fine. Rare.

The form and weight of this coin are closer to the hemidrachm than the drachm, but we maintain the classification of RPC III 4629 where the specimen shown is in worse condition than ours, where, still well centred, the egyptian hellenistic temple appearing on the reverse is much similar to that of Isis on Philae-Agilkia Island.
