SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Struck under Hieron I, circa 475-470 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23.09 mm, 17.18 g). Charioteer driving slow quadriga right, holding kentron in the right hand and reins in the left hand, Nike flying right above crowning horses with open wreath. Rev. ΣVΡA ΚΟ Σ ΙΟ Ν (retrograde) Head of Arethusa right, hair raised and tied in taenia, wearing single-pendant earring, four dolphins swimming around clockwise. Boehringer series XIIc, 337 (V166/R237).
