LYCIA. Patara. Circa 400 BC. Hemidrachm. (Silver, 15.61 mm, 2.42 g) Dolphin; within pelleted circular border. Rev. Head of Hermes right, wearing winged petasos; in the fields, Γ – Τ; all within pelleted circular border with incuse circle. Slightly double struck to the pelleted circular border on reverse and thin scratches on obverse, otherwise, near extremely fine. Well centered reverse with a stunning portrait of Hermes. Fine/Extremely Fine. Apparently an unpublished type in the standard references. Exceedingly Rare; apparently the second known example.
Only a similar type was sold in the Morton & Eden auction 124, September 26, 2023, lot 494, at £. 3800 + fee.
From a European collection formed prior to 2005.
