Theodosius II, 402-450 Solidus (Gold, 20.8 mm, 4.42 g). Tricennalia issue, Constantinopolis, circa 430-440. DN THEODO SIVS P F AVG Cuirassed bust of Theodosius facing, slightly to right, wearing crested and dotted helmet and diadem decorated with pellets and pearl pendants, holding spear in the right hand over his shoulder and ogival-shape shield with dotted edge in the foreground, decorated with a horseman to right, spearing a fallen enemy below. Rev. VOT XXX MVLT XXXX Personified figure of the city of Constantinopolis seated left on throne, the left leg onward with foot on prow, wearing crested helmet and holding globus cruciger on the right hand and scepter resting on the left arm; shield with dotted edge, decorated with crescent and pellet and dotted spear behind, to right side of throne, star to right; CONOB in exergue, under the ground line.
