Description

Greek Asia. Kings of Galatia. Amyntas (36-25 BC). AE 17 mm. Uncertain mint in Galatia, Pisidia, or Lykaonia. D/ Draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver over shoulder. R/ Stag standing right. HGC 7, 784; RPC I 3503. AE. g. 4.91 mm. 17.00 Good VF. In 37/6 BC, Antony awarded Galatia to Amyntas, who continued to rule until his death in 25 BC. Artemis’ features here resemble those of Kleopatra VII of Egypt, possibly as a sign of deference to Antony and the Egyptian queen (CNG 358, lot 152).
