Continental Greece. Kings of Macedon. Philip III Arrhidaios (323-317 BC). AR Tetradrachm, Tyre mint. In the name and types of Alexander III. Struck under Laomedon. Dated RY 29 (?) of 'Ozamilk (=321/0 BC). D/ Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress. R/ AΛEΞANΔPOY. Zeus seated left on low-backed throne, right leg drawn back, long sceptre in his hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; in left field, -ΙO (Phoenician 'K = 'Ozmilk [king of Tyre]) above ΙΙΙ ΙΙΙ ΙΙΙ (?) = (date [29 in Phoenician]). Cf. Price 3274A (date next to name; AKE). AR. g. 16.97 mm. 28.00 An outstanding example, from masterly engraved dies, well struck in high relief. Superb old cabinet tone. About EF.
