Description

Greek Italy. Southern Apulia, Tarentum. AR Nomos, c. 272-240 BC. Apollonios and Di-, magistrates. Obv. Warrior on horseback right, holding shield and spear; ΑΠΟΛΛΟΝΙΩΣ in two lines below. Rev. Phalanthos riding dolphin left, head facing, with flowing chlamys around left arm, holding trident in right hand and resting on dolphin with left; to left, Nike holding wreath; waves below. HN Italy 1038; Vlasto 894-898; SNG ANS 1212-6. AR. 6.47 g. 20.5 mm. Iridescent tone. Good VF/about EF.
