Description

Philip I (244-249). AE Sestertius, 248 AD. Obv. IMP M IVL PHIIPPVS AVG. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. SAECVLARES AVGG SC. Low column, inscribed COS/III. RIC IV 162a; C. 195. AE. 23.47 g. 30.00 mm. Scarce. A handsome example, struck on a broad and thick flan, of full weight. Green brown patina. Minor traces of smoothing, otherwise. good VF. The issue commemorates the 1000th anniversary of Rome.
