Isaac II, Angelus (1185-1195). AV Hyperpyron Nomisma, Constantinople mint. Obv. MHP (ligate) - ΘV across field. The Virgin enthroned facing, nimbate and wearing pallium and maphorium; she holds before her nimbate head of the infant Christ facing. Rev. [ICAAKIOC ΔЄC]. X/MI in right field. Isaac and the Archangel Michael standing facing, holding between them sword in sheath; the emperor holds cruciform sceptre and he is crowned by manus Dei in centre field above. Sear 2001; D.O. 1a; Ratto 2174-6. AV. 4.20 g. 29.00 mm. R. Rare and choice. Sharply struck from fresh dies. Peripheral areas of weak strike, otherwise. EF.
