Description

LT series. AE Semuncia, Luceria mint, 214 BC. Obv. Jugate head of Dioscuri right, wearing pilei bound with laurel wreath; [behind, T]. Rev. Two horses of Dioscuri galloping right; above each horse, star; in exergue, L. Cr. 98A/8. AE. 2.24 g. 15.50 mm. RRRR. A superb example of this extremely rare issue. Only one specimen listed by Crawford (Napoli Museo Nazionale, F 1959). Few specimens known. Lovely green patina with light earthy deposits. About EF. The dating of this coin has been suggested by Roberto Lippi, based on a new soon to be published study.
