Sicily. Syracuse. Hieron I (478-466 BC). AR Tetradrachm. Struck circa 478-475 BC. Obv. Charioteer driving slow quadriga right, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath. Rev. Diademed head of Arethusa right, wearing single-pendant earring and necklace; ΣVRAKOΣION and four dolphins around. HGC 2 1306; Boehringer 185 (V82/R127); SNG ANS 58 (same dies). AR. 17.37 g. 25.50 mm. R. Large flan and complete. Lightly toned, with iridescent hues. Rare pair of dies. Good VF.
