Greek Italy. Southern Apulia, Tarentum. AR Diobol, c. 380-325 BC. Obv. Head of Athena left, wearing crested helmet decorated with Skylla. Rev. Herakles kneeling right, strangling Nemean lion with both arms; owl above. HN Italy 976; Vlasto -; D'Andrea-Miglioli-Tafuri-Vonghia 175 (only one specimen listed). AR. 0.98 g. 12.50 mm. RR. Very rare. Superb and sharply struck, enchanting light tone with golden hues. EF.
