Greek Italy. Northern Apulia, Arpi. AR Diobol, c. 325-275 BC. Obv. Head of Athena right, wearing Attic helmet decorated with hippocamp; symbol on neckguard. Rev. APΠA / [NΩN]. Horse prancing left. HN Italy 634; SNG ANS -; SNG Cop. -; SNG Lloyd 95. AR. 0.93 g. 12.70 mm. RR. Very rare and in superb condition for the issue. Good VF. Of particular interest is the symbol adorning the neckguard of Athena's helmet, potentially serving as a distinctive signature or mark. Such symbols often carried personal or civic significance, representing the authority or affiliation of the issuing authority.
