AE. 6.31 g. 19.40 mm. RR. Very rare. Nice deep green patina. VF. Scipio Africanus is known to have sought refuge in Canusium in 217/6 BC, leading A. Alföldi (in Essays in Roman coinage presented to Harold Mattingly, p. 77) to suggest that it is in fact the celebrated general depicted on the obverse.
