Description

Greek Asia. Northern Apulia, Ausculum. AE 13 mm, c. 240 BC. Obv. Head of Herakles left wearing lion's skin headdress, club at shoulder. Rev. ΑΥCΚΛΑ. Nike standing right, attaching taenia with pendant wreath to palm frond. HN Italy 655; SNG ANS -. AE. 2.09 g. 13.00 mm. RR. Rare and choice. Deep green patina with earthen highlights. Good VF. The reverse derives from the Roman didrachm RRC 22/1 issued c. 250 BC.
