Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Heraclea. AR Nomos, c. 330 BC. Eu- and Apol-, magistrates. Obv. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with Skylla throwing a rock; [EY before]. Rev. Herakles grappling with Nemean Lion; club left, fluted jug between legs; AΠOΛΛ[...] to left, [|-HPAKΛHIΩN] above. HN Italy 1378; SNG ANS 66 (same obv. die); Gulbenkian -; McClean 825 (same dies); Weber 706; cf. HGC 1, 980; Van Keuren 51 (same obverse die). AR. 7.65 g. 23.00 mm. Reverse inusually complete. Brilliant and superb. Wonderful light tone with a hint of iridescence. Flan crack and minor deposits. About EF.
