Description

Gallienus (253-268). AE 29 mm. Aezanis mint (?) Phrygia. Obv. AVH[ ]Λ ΓAΛNIHN [ ] Radiate bust right. Rev. Poseidon, naked, standing right, with foot upon prow, holding trident and dolphin; to left, ЄTBK; between Poseidon's legs. T. Unlisted in the standard references. AE. 18.79 g. 29.00 mm. RRR. Extremely rare; apparently not published. Metal flaw on obverse, Deep green patina with reddish brown spots. VF. An hypothetical attribution, suggested (despite the crude obverse style) by the reverse type (cf. the Aezanis' contemporary pseudo-autonomous issue SNG von Aulock 3340, SNG Cop. 69). For a similar reverse type, cf. also Arabia, Rabbathmoba : Spijkerman 35 and Sofaer 18 (Geta, Poseidon left).
