Hadrian (117-138). Æ Sestertius, Rome mint,134-138 AD. Obv. HADRIANVS AVG COS III PP. Laureate and draped bust right. Rev. NILVS/SC. Nilus reclining right, leaning on rock, holding reed and cornucopiae, on which two children are climbing; to right, hippopotamus standing left among reeds; crocodile below. RIC II 863. AE. 22.97 g. 33.00 mm. R. Rare and fascinating “Travel series” issue. Superb portrait. Toned orichalcum surfaces. Some corrosion on reverse, otherwise good VF/VF.
