Description

Greek Italy. Northern Apulia, Ausculum. AE 20 mm. c. 240 BC. Obv. Head of Herakles left, wearing lion skin, club on shoulder. Rev. AYCKΛA. Nike standing right, attaching tainia with pendant wreath to palm frond. HN Italy 654; SNG ANS 648. AE. 5.31 g. 20.00 mm. R. Rare. An attractive example. Nice uneven brown and turquoise patina. Hair-line reverse die break. VF. The reverse derives from the Roman didrachm RRC 22/1 issued c. 250 BC.
