Augustus (27 BC - 14 AD). AR Denarius, Lugdunum mint. Struck 2 BC - 4 AD. CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE. Laureate head right. / C L CAESARES (in exergue) AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT. Gaius and Lucius Caesares, on left and right, standing facing, each togate and resting hand on shield set on ground between them; behind each shield, spear; above, on left, simpulum right, and on right, lituus left. RIC I (2nd ed.) 207. AR. 3.79 g. 20.00 mm. A choice example, struck on a broad flan. Lovely iridescent tone. Graffito (X = mark of value) on obverse, otherwise Good VF/VF.
