Greek Asia. Bithynia. Nikomedes III, Euergetes (128-94 BC). AR Tetradrachm, dated year 205 (96-95 BC). D/ Diademed head right (of Nikomedes II, Epiphanes). R/ BAΣIΛEΩΣ-EΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ / NIKOMΗΔΟΥ. Zeus stephanophoros standing left, holding wreath and sceptre; to inner left, eagle standing left on thunderbolt; below, magistrate's monogram and dynastic date. Cf. SNG von Aulock 6895 var. (monogram and date); Cf. SNG Cop. 648 var. (same); Cf. Waddington 40 var. (monogram). AR. g. 15.19 mm. 32.00 A superb expressive portrait. Lovely light iridescent cabinet tone. About EF. The portrait of Nikomedes II, Epiphanes, was retained unchanged on the coinage of his successors.
