ROMAN BRONZE APOLLO CITHAROEDUS ON ORIGINAL STAND

Ca. AD 100 - 300 A bronze statue of Apollo Citharoedus cast using the lost-wax process. The statue is dressed in a long tunic standing in counterpoise, with his left leg bent at the knee, the heel lifted and his weight shifted to his right leg. Apollo's torso is slightly twisted with the right arm resting on the flat pillar and the left brought forward to grasp a lyra. The statue is based on the original rectangular podium that has four lion paws.

Provenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the Holland art market in the 1990s.
