SCYTHIAN OPENWORK APPLIQUE WITH STAG
Ca. 400 - 200 BC A Scythian bronze openwork plaquette depicting a stag. Most of its body is within a rectangular frame that its feet and lower body flow into, with the head, ear, and antlers touching the border. The iconography of the stag is seen over and over again, replicated in gold, bronze, and stone, by various peoples in Central Asia, the Near East, and even the Indus Valley.
