EGYPTIAN STEATITE SCARAB WITH PAPYRUS PLANT
Second Intermediate Period / Hyksos period, Ca. 1700 - 1550 BC An Egyptian Second Intermediate Period / Hyksos period hand-carved steatite scarab. It has a single border line and a depiction of a papyrus plant . The plant is set on a basket (hieroglyph for “lord”) from which four protective serpents (uraei) emanate. On the back, only the head of the scarab beetle is shown in detail, while the beginning of the wings are merely demarcated. For similar see: MET Museum Accession Number: 22.1.311.
