HELLENISTIC GOLD OPENWORK EARRING
Ca. 300 - 100 BC A pair of Hellenistic gold earrings comprised of a thick tapering wire connected to an openwork large band decorated with gold threads and pellets. The hollow body creates an interesting contour to the curved shape. The wire-like hook rises from one end and curves back, tapering slightly to fit through the earlobe of the wearer. Earrings like these would have been worn by high status women, who treasured their jewellery. Jewellery was some of the only private property elite women could own in the Classical Mediterranean.
