EGYPTIAN FAIENCE USHABTI WITH HIEROGLYPHIC INSCRIPTION

Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC An Egyptian mold-formed faience ushabti covered in lustrous layers of pale green-hued glaze. The ushabti stands in mummiform posture atop an integral rectangular plinth. In the hands there is the symbolic pick and hoe and a seed bag incised behind the left shoulder. The narrow countenance features almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, a false beard, and cupped ears beneath a simple tripartite wig. On the central part of the legs is a long hieroglyphic inscription. For similar see: MET Museum Accession Number: 10.130.1044b.
